McFly is a british rock/pop band, probably best known for their appearance in the Lindsay Lohan/Chris Pine movie Just My Luck. Another well known fact is that they are in the Guiness book of Records as the youngest band ever to score a #1 debut album on the UK charts - a record previously held by no other than The Beatles.
They have a reputation about being just another "boy band" which is far from the truth. On top of the evidence provided below they also write their own songs, play their own instruments, sing live and have their own record label. They have a couple of lame ballads, yes, but a bunch of their songs are actually great. Like Shine A Light and Too Close For Comfort. Another thing is that these guys is a very good live band - they sing and play extremely well.
SO! Prepare to have your preconceived notions torn apart.
The best way to describe Ron Pope is probably as a pop/rock singer/songwriter combination. He is probably most famous for his ballads and love songs, but last year I saw the guy on Bravalla festival and I can tell you he really brought it. A lot more "rock" than I anticipated.
Anyway, Ron Pope has a new album out called Calling Of The Dogs. The first single is Lick My Wounds - a really cool pop/rock song with a pretty cool guitar riff and, as usual, good singing and a funky chorus! It is also the best song on the album...
Let's face it - it's very hard to choose just 10 songs and albums from the year for a top list. Especially songs is really hard so I just had to complete the top lists with a couple of honorary mentions... Songs:
Lola Montez - Volbeat / No Devil In Me - Casablanca / Hail To The King - Avenged Sevenfold /
Spectres - Avantasia / Wait For Me - Kings Of Leon / Desire - Editors / Mojo's Gone - Dregen /
New - Paul McCartney / Above The Law - Hardcore Superstar / Monsoon - Jorn /
Albums:
Mystery Of Time - Avantasia / C'mon Take On Me - Hardcore Superstar / Fortress - Alter Bridge /
Dream Theater - Dream Theater / Riding A Black Swan - Casablanca / Like Clockwork - Queens Of The Stone Age / Hail To The King - Avenged Sevenfold / AM - Arctic Monkeys /
How about the best concert?
That's a no-brainer, it's KISS of course. I saw them on their Monster tour premiere in Stockholm, with the new spider stage. Others I've seen this year that stood out is Volbeat, Rammstein and Airbourne that all did seriously epic shows…
